101 Dream Vacations

Napa Valley

101 Dream Vacations agent Erica Sprague tells us a little bit about her visit to Napa.
My husband and I enjoy our wine. Before having children, we wanted to travel to Napa Valley to explore the many wineries. We stayed in downtown Napa and loved our boutique hotel, Avia, however if we traveled there again I would definitely stay in Yountville. Yountville is filled with amazing restaurants and bakeries. We decided to do a bike tour of Napa while stopping at different wineries with our tour guide. It was such a great decision because we had so much fun and were able to visit wineries that we may have missed otherwise. One of my favorite memories was meeting the different winery dogs. They are so popular there is even a winery dog calendar you can purchase! During our bike tour, we were able to tour winery caves where they stored the wine barrels. We even got to sample the wine straight from the barrels, where we learned the term “wine thief”. We stopped for lunch at one of the wineries and had a picnic with the other guests on our bike tour. There are so many unique and different wineries to choose from. We toured a winery that was a real castle and was featured on the Bachelor tv show. We took an aerial tram to get to another winery. Another favorite thing that we did was to go to a small group food and wine pairing at a winery. The views were magnificent, the food was spectacular and we ended up signing up for their wine club. There are so many other things to do other than tour wineries. If you think of high quality wine when you hear someone mention Napa, the food is equally amazing. There were so many delicious meals we enjoyed while in Napa. If you are adventurous, you can take a hot air balloon early in the morning and take in the beautiful scenery. San Francisco is located about 30 minutes away. It was a convenient place to fly into and we ended our vacation spending a few days in the city of San Francisco, including enjoying a San Francisco Giants baseball game and touring Alcatraz. Overall, if you are looking for a memorable vacation, I highly recommend traveling to Napa Valley. Be warned though that your taste in wine will become more expensive and you will probably sign up for a few wine clubs.
